Travis Kelce will not be joining girlfriend Taylor Swift as she bids to make history at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight, according to reports.
Swift leads the nominations at this year’s VMAs with 12; eight for her ‘Fortnight’ music video, two social categories and nods in the best pop and artist of the year categories.
If she claims eight of those prizes, the pop icon will surpass Beyoncé’s all-time record of 30 awards to become the most successful artist in VMA history.
Yet should that play out, Swift will not have boyfriend Kelce by her side at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island.
Page Six is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs superstar is unable to attend the VMAs due to work commitments, after the team returned to practice on Tuesday ahead of their crucial outing against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.

The Chiefs head into that game on the back of a victory after winning their Week 1 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday.
While he can’t be there to root for her this evening, Kelce said about the VMAs on his New Heights podcast: ‘Hopefully Taylor can walk away with a few, she’s nominated for about 10 of those things tonight. Hopefully she can walk away with some Moonmen [VMA trophies].’
Swift was in Kansas City to support her man against the Ravens last week, although she sat apart from BFF Brittany Mahomes at Arrowhead Stadium.
Many feared for Taylor and Brittany’s friendship after they kept their distance on the night, especially following the recent controversy over the latter’s like on a Donald Trump Instagram post.
However, they put any talk of a potential rift to bed by attending the US Open final together on Sunday, where they were seen embracing alongside their men.
